NEW YORK, NY – April 6, 2010 – Luxury women’s wear designer, Christina Travers, introduced the latest group in her summer collection, further augmenting the growing worldwide network and expanding the breadth of the GRACE label.
She has unveiled a simple, elegant collection of luxury dresses incorporating precious, raw silk originating from remote regions in Cambodia. Limited-edition cotton silks from Italy are masterfully mixed into the group to create a modern, architectural feel with a cohesive, global viewpoint.
Christina Travers, Founder and Creative Director behind the label, said, "What makes this collection so special is that these gorgeous silks discovered in rural Cambodia were woven by artisans who have been disabled as a result of landmines, as well as the residual effects of Agent Orange. It’s been incredibly rewarding to be able to provide an economic opportunity to these skilled people.
Every step of the design process – from draping, cutting, sewing, steaming, to sculpting and molding the fabrics – has been absolutely fantastic. It’s very rare to find a cut of silk so pure, yet this is the way they’ve been producing and weaving it for centuries. I’m really pleased to do a fresh interpretation of it. Easy, elegant, wearable pieces – with a modern edge – that will stand the test of time.”
